Dialog, etika

a politika

The volume has been written over almost twenty years. It is divided into three thematic parts (Dialogue, Ethics, and Politics) and focuses mostly on Plato’s „early“ and „middle“ dialogues. Stressing the importance of the dialogical reading of the dialogues, the author searches for a link between the central topics of the dialogues (care of the soul, unity of virtues, dialectics and the Form of the Good). His aim is to point out to problematic consequences that arise from assumptions held by the participants of dialogues such as that of „perfect“ way of life for citizens in the dialogue Charmides, that of the Best Constitution in Book V of the Republic or that of double conception of justice in the dialogues Gorgias and Republic. The notion of dialectics and the Form of the Good presented in the Republic, Book VII is considered the climax of ethical-political thought of Plato’s middle period.
