Život rozumění

What is the relation between the temporal-spatial and the linguistic nature of our experience? What role do the different “senses” of time and space play in our understanding of sense as meaning? The studies collected in this volume examine experience of meaning from the standpoint of the present understood not merely as one dimension of time, but as presence in the world, i.e. interconnection between the present and the co-present (including the non-present). The present so conceived is considered in the light of authors who structured this concept in temporal terms (Plato, Bergson, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty), but also with a view to broaden and transform its meaning. Furthermore, the clarification of the relation between understanding as such and its scientific form, i.e. knowledge, indicates a conception of Being as individual presence in the world, borne also by things and by beings which have no language and do not relate to the all-embracing dimensions of space and time.
