The ninth volume of Jan Patočka’s Collected Writings presents articles about Comenius published before 1958. As a significant part of Comeniological study, in addition to his analyses of Comenius’ works, are also Patočka’s comparative studies between Comenius and his distinguished contemporaries, above all Cusanus, Descartes, Bacon, etc., as well as Leibniz and Herder. In many ways, Patočka exceeded the field of Comeniology and his studies are important contributions to the history of European philosophy in general.
