The text is the reconstruction of Jan Patočka’s series of lectures held in the school year 1971–1972. It is based on tape records and detailed notes of several attendants of the course. This series was the last teaching activity Patočka was allowed to perform at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University before he was forced to become emeritus. The text is published here for the first time. It has been published neither in the samizdat Archive Collection of the Works of Jan Patočka, nor separately in the beginning of 1990’s because its edition was only recently completed.
